All children who receive treatment at participating Beads of Courage® sites are eligible to enroll in the Beads of Courage® program to become a Beads of Courage member.  Upon enrollment each child is given the Beads of Courage® bead color guide with a detachable membership card. Their Beads of Courage® journey begins when each child is first given a length of string and beads that spell out their first name. Then, colorful beads, each representing a different treatment milestone are given to the child by their professional health care provider to add to their Beads of Courage® collection throughout their treatment.

 

 

hospitals - the Beads of Courage® cooperative group
Any hospital that treats children is eligible to become a member of the Beads of Courage® Cooperative Group. In addition to being recognized as a licensed Beads of Courage® site for program implementation, benefits of belonging to the Beads of Courage Cooperative Group include: 

• Receiving on-site training in the Beads of Courage® program;

• Receiving all Beads of Courage® program materials necessary for implementing the Beads of Courage® program including bead kits, membership cards, posters, professional health care provider referenced training manuals, and a copy of the Beads of Courage® documentary DVD produced by Bobbi Fischer;

• Participation in multi-site interdisciplinary research on the Beads of Courage® program and related parallel programs;

• Eligible to receive and participate in the development of additional innovative interventions to enhance family-focused care in children with life-threatening illness;

• Eligible to receive and implement additional programs for the professional development and self-care for professional health care provider.
